She is beautiful and healthy and wonderful. I got called in for the induction yesterday (5/12) at 6 am. Got to the hospital by 7 and was in the room at 7:15. They started me right off with the pitocin. I was contracting regularly but didn't feel a thing. I wasn't dialating at all, but I thought well this is sooooo easy. I am a rock star! That all changed about 12:45 pm when my OB broke my water. The VERY NEXT contraction was a doozy and then they got progressively worse from there. I did some pain meds that took the edge off for a little bit, but mostly made me loopy and in pain. By 4:00pm I was only dilated to about 3 and in MASSSSSSSSIVE pain. They called the wonderful man with the Epidural and I was feeling much better by 4:45. I was still contracting pretty strongly and regularly, but was only dilated to maybe 4 or 5 by 730pm. Her heart rate started getting eratic so I had to stay on my left side for most of the night and the fact that I wasn't dilating made the doc think we could be heading for a C-section. Which I didn't want. She suspected the baby was turned the wrong way and that could be causing the lack of dilation so they had me lay on my stomach at an incline, which was hard because I couldn't feel my legs. I did that for about 45 minutes and the second I turned over my mucus plug came out and I was dilated to 8. So THANK GOODNESS that worked. That was about 9:30. They said they were going to check me at about 11:30 and if I was at 10 then we could start pushing. The contractions got real strong again and the epidural had to be increased a little. It got pretty bad before the dose kicked in. Once it did I still felt the contractions, but it wasn't painful, just had the massiver urge to push like every minute. At 1130 I was at ten and got to start pushing. Everyone said that first time moms can push from 2 - 3 hours. Which I was not looking forward to. This was the part in the movies that always looked like it was the worst part. It wasn't anything like it is in the movies. It didn't actually hurt me (epidural is my friend), but was EXTREMELY uncomfortable and tiring. I actually only pushed for about 45 minutes and then we had to get the doc in quick cuz she as crowning. Once the doc made it in I had two more sets of pushes and she was out. What a complete and total relief that was!! I can't believe how tiring and long and painful (at times) it was and then its just immediately over. It was great!! I had some small tearing and stitches, but am doing pretty good.
My mom has most of the pictures on her camera so I will post more later.
